Halcyon – Rio Youers

A page turner from the first sentence. Truly a wonderful book.

What if there was a place that offered a break from it all. A break from the grind of the 40 hour work week, of the bills, the worry over school shootings and politics. What if you could go somewhere where you worked together and shared resources. Sounds pretty good right? Almost too good to be true? That is what one father unfortunately realizes when he decides to move to Halcyon after a horrible tragedy befalls on his family. What would a father do to protect his daughters from the horrors of the modern world? What would any parent do to try and make a better life for their children.

Soon after arriving the whole family settles into a routine and starts to really enjoy life on Halcyon. They don’t miss the traffic, the noise, the pollution, the grind of the work day. They start to find within themselves feelings and emotions they thought died. But all too soon it is revealed that it isn’t all that it seems. The leader of Halcyon may not be who she seems and something very dark and sinister is fueling and funding their little community.

Will it be too late to save his family? Has the damage already been done? Or can he once again, save his daughters from evil.
